Masonic, token (penny), c1877, Grand Lodge of New Zealand, struck in copper (36mm), no maker, reverse, 'Loge Lessing/Valparaiso' and at the base is a small seal image 'Grosse Loge Von Hamburg/11.8.1811'. Extremely fine, with an A.H.Baldwin ticket.
The Grand Lodge of Hamburg was one of the eight recognized Freemason Grand Lodges that existed in the German Empire until 1935. It was founded in Hamburg in 1811. When Freemasonry was banned in Germany in 1935 the Grand Lodge of Hamburg did not stop working in 1935, but moved its headquarters to Valparaiso in Chile and continued to operate in exile.
