In connection with the grand patriotic demonstration on January 1, which has been inaugurated by the Southland Caledonian Society. The meeting which was held last evening, presided over by Mr Andrew Bain, was proof that; so far as enthusiasm is concerned everything is in thorough-going order to make things a success. It was decided to offer cash prizes for piping, dancing, field events, chopping and sawing, Fire Brigade events, etc., and that tickets should he sent to the various districts for sale. Good reports were received from each of the various committees, which expressed the determination to do things on New Year's Day. It was decided that a monster procession to the grounds should take place, and that prominence should be given to returned soldiers.
