Description
New Zealand International Exhibition, Christchurch, 1882, struck in silver gilt (35.5x3mm), reverse inscribed 'John/Corbett/M.P.' (M.-, cfM.1882/25). Toned on obverse, otherwise good extremely fine and very rare, in an official fitted case from the exhibition.
Unlisted in Morel. The obverse die for this medal has many differences from the illustrated example in Morel of M.1882/25, the reverse die also has minor differences.

From the 'Colonist' 19th April 1882, in relation to British exhibits at the 1882 Exhibition: -
"Mr John Corbett, M.P.. of Stoke Prior Salt Works, Worcestershire, exhibits all descriptions of salt for provision curing, dairy and table purposes. The brine from which this salt is manufactured is obtained from artesian wells having their source nearly 1000 ft deep. About ?450,000 has been expended on the Stoke Prior works, which cover an area of over thirty acres."
