Together with WWI Returned From Active Service badge by Austral Engv Co, Perth, numbered 114103.^Ex Regal Coin, Melbourne 1/04/1984.^Joseph Martin Manning (part of Jacka's mob), presser (tailor), age 23, born at Fitzroy, Melbourne, Vic; Enl.18Dec1914 at Bendigo, Vic in 14Bn as 1591 (number later changed to 1621); Emb.19Feb1915; served in Gallipoli; WIA GSW to right arm and right chest 19May1915 during Turkish break-in to Courtney's Post where L/Cpl Albert Jacka was awarded the first Victoria Cross for WWI; evacuated to Egypt and then to Malta and UK with chronic chest wound; returned to Egypt 05Mar1916 and then to France; WIA shell shock 13Aug1916; rejoined unit 17Sep1916; captured 11Apr1917 at Reincourt and interned at Limberg POW Camp, Germany; RTA 05Mar1919; Disch.24Jun1919.^With research.
