Spanish Netherlands, Duchy of Brabant, Albert and Elizabeth, (1598-1621), silver patagon, 1612-21, Antwerp mint, (KM.35.1), sea salvage from the wreck of the De Liefde. Toned, nearly very fine.

Ex Alan McRae Collection, with his display ticket.^^De Liefde was a VOC ship that ran aground and sank in the North Sea off the Shetland Islands whilst returning from the East to the Dutch Republic, on the 7th January 1711. Only one crew member survived the wreck and an estimated 227,000 guilders, and 1,800 silver and gold ducats were lost.
