Queen Victoria, halfcrown, 1900; florins, 1900 (2); shillings, 1888, 1900; sixpence, date unclear; threepences, date unclear (2), all sea salvaged Bank of NSW coins on the wreck of the SS Elingamite displayed on a map of the ships route. Salt water corrosion, sixpence and threepences severe, poor - good fine. (8)
Ex Alan McRae Collection, with his display board and descriptive tickets.^^The SS Elingamite was travelling on the regular Tasman Sea from Sydney to Auckland carrying a large consignment of coins, 136 passengers, and 58 crew when it struck West Island, 35 nautical miles north of Cape Regina, in heavy fog in the morning of the 9th November 1902.
