China, Qing Dynasty, (1644-1911), blue and white export ware, late 18th - early 19th century, porcelain saucer decorated with a peony and magnolia, two thin bands around lip, salvaged from the Tek Sing wreck. Minor glaze roughness commensurate with a burial at sea, very fine.
Ex Alan McRae Collection with his display ticket.^From Nagel Auctions Tek Sing Treasure, 2000.^^The Tek Sing was a large three-masted Chinese Junk which sank on the 6th February 1822 in the South China Sea, carrying a large cargo of some 350,000 pieces of porcelain, 1,600 passengers, and a crew of 200.
