Mark Antony, (32-31 B.C.), silver denarius (3.51g), mint moving with Mark Antony (Patrae?), obv. praetorian galley to right with rowers, scepter tied with fillet at prow, around legends [ANT A]VG III VIR. R.P.C., rev. legionary eagle between two standards, LEG VIII below (cf.S.1479, Crawford 544/21; Sydenham 1225). Struck slightly off centre on an uneven flan, banker's mark on obverse, nearly very fine and scarce.
Ex S.J. Green Collection, purchased from Noble Numismatics Sale 122 (lot 3177).
The Legio VIII referenced on this coin was created by Antony and later disbanded following his defeat at Actium.
