Sicily, Syracuse, Deinomenid Tyranny, (c.485-466 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.05 g), struck under Gelon, c.480 B.C., obv. quadriga driven to right by charioteer, Nike flying right crowning horses, rev. **SUPAKOSION* around, head of Arethusa to right, four dolphins around, (cf.S.913, Boehringer series IV, 46 [V27/R30], SNG ANS 10, Boston MFA 331 = Warren 294, Jameson 738, de Luynes 1147, Pozzi 550 [all from the same dies]). Attractively toned, some areas of roughness, lovely late archaic style, very fine and rare.
