Augustus, (A.D. 14-37), gold aureus, Lugdunum Mint, issued 2 B.C. - A.D. 4, (7.87 g), obv. laureate head of Augustus to right, around [CAESAR AVGVSTVS] DIVI F PATER PATRIAE, rev. AVGVSTI F COS DESIG PRINC IVVENT around, C L CAESARES in exergue, Gaius and Lucius standing front, each with a hand resting on a round shield, a spear, and in field above, a simpulum right and lituus left, (S.1578, RIC 206, BMC 515, Cohen 42). Struck slightly off centre on obverse, otherwise very fine and scarce.
