Macedon, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.58 g), Tyre Mint, issued 305-290 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with a serpent, rev. Nike standing to left with open wings, holding wreath in outstretched hand a **WT*W monogram in left field, in inner left **PUR* monogram in circle, to right ALEXANDROU, (cf.S.6702, cf.Price 3536 [type as Price 3539 p.446 for tetradrachm for monograms], M.-, BMC -). Extremely fine and very rare.
