Macedon, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.56 g), Salamis or mint in western Asia Minor, issued c.332-323 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with a serpent, rev. Nike standing to left with open wings, holding wreath and stylis, in left field ram's head right, to right **ALEXANDPOU*, (cf.S.6702, Price 1917 [Magnesia, same dies as illustration], Troxell, New, Group III, 37 (dies 19/a). Very fine and rare.
