Heavily toned, otherwise very fine. (5)

John William Wright, factory manager, age 22, born at Quirindi, NSW, son of George Wright; Enl.13Aug1915 at Holdsworthy, NSW in ALH; Emb.02Oct1915; served in Egypt and Sinai until trf as AM in 68Sqn RFC15Dec1916; to UK and to 2Lt and pilot training on various aircraft; to 4Sqn AFC in France 28Feb1918; WIA while ground strafing Germans 01Apr1918; Rtn to France & Flanders 25Jul1918; to Capt; awarded DFC; RTA 06May1919; Appt terminated 11Aug1919; WWII: Enl.27Jul1940 in 2/9 Fd Regt; to Lt-Col and CO of 2/15 Fd Regt 14Nov1941; served in Malaya 17Sep1941 to 11Sep1945; POW 15Feb1942 on Singapore Island; recovered from Changi POW Camp 05Sep1945; RTA 11Sep1945; placed on retired list as Lt-Col 08Jan1946; Awarded Australian Efficiency Medal and Mentioned in Despatches; Died 03Nov1986.
