Royal Shipwreck Relief Society of NSW, in silver (37mm), with ribbon and clasp suspension, reverse inscribed 'Frederick/ J. Patterson/ For/ Bravery Saving Life/ 11.5.1946'. Good extremely fine.
Frederick J. Patterson, NSW Railways, on 14th May, 1946, risked his ife in a courageous effort to the save the lives of two children in the path of an advancing train near Canterbury. Patterson, in saving the elder boy, made a valiant attempt to rescue his younger brother, but he was a ^moment too late, the train having passed over him. The silver medal presented at the Rawson Institute for Seamen, Sydney, on 11th September, 1946 by Mrs Moore, wife of read-admiral G.D. Moore CBE.
