Macedon, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.92 g), Memphis Mint, early issue under Ptolemy I Soter as satrap, c.322-320 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin, dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, right leg of Zeus drawn back, eagle in outstretched hand, ram's head of Amun-Re to left, **ALEXANDROU* to right, A**D* monogram under throne, dotted border, (cf.S.6713, Price 3964, SNG Cop 9, McClean 3452). Lightly toned, struck slightly off centre on reverse with graffiti in field, good very fine and a rare type with Egyptian style dies.
