Italy, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.275-250 B.C.), AE 15, (2.62 g), obv. head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress, rev. META to left, barley ear with leaf, to right, torch, (S.-, HN Italy 1688, Johnston, bronze, 52). Beautiful glossy patina, struck slightly off centre, otherwise good very fine and very scarce.

Ex Leu Numismatik AG Auction 19, lot 67. Previously Munzen & Medaillen GmbH 17, 4 October 2005, lot 60. Also from the collection of W. Niggeler, privately acquired from Bank Leu in 1971. With ticket.
