Trio: 1939-45 Star; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. W1897 G.W.Williams. on first medal, W.1897. G.W.Williams on the second and third medals. All medals impressed. The suspension loop on first medal broken off, contact marks on the last two medals, otherwise very fine.
Together with pin-back riband for 1939-45 Star and Pacific Star; three b&w photos; book titled 'Trying To Be Sailors' by John Leggoe, first edition 1983, hardcover with dust jacket, pp230, with b&w photos throughout.

George William Williams, a cook, born 30Oct1922 at Melbourne, Vic; Enl.25Nov1940 in RAN (W1897) at Williamstown, Vic and mobilized for service at rank of Stoker II; to Stoker 25Nov1941; various postings including to HMAS Patricia Cam, an Auxiliary Minesweeper that was sunk by a Japanese seaplane off Wessell Island, Northern Territory on 22Jan1943; was among the survivors taken to Kahlin Military Hospital at Darwin but developed 'Anxiety State' and was transferred to Shore establishments for a year; Disch.22May1946 as Stoker at HMAS Lonsdale.
