Recommendation: During the operations of 29th. and 30th. September and 1st. October this N.C.O. displayed an initiative and daring much above the average. His platoon sergeant having become a casualty, he assumed command of the platoon, and led them for two days, during which time he showed such daring, contempt of danger and cheerfulness under most adverse conditions as to be a source of inspiration to his platoon. On the line being established he volunteered for, and took out a patrol under heavy machine gun fire, and returned with valuable information as to the position of several machine gun posts. Throughout the whole operations he exhibited a courage, initiative and devotion to duty of a very high standard, and set a splendid example to others.
The above recommendation relates to service in Bellicourt in France.
