Victory Medal 1914-19 to Died on Submarine AE1. 7395 C.F.Wright S.P.O. R.A.N. Impressed. Toned very fine and rare.

Ex Status International Sale 206 (lot 1919).
Together with a Gallipoli Centenary 1915-2015 AE2 badge on card of issue; 5 b&w photos relating to submarines AE1 and AE2 and crew; post card in colour relating to submarine B11 in the Dardanelles.
Charles Frederick Wright, born 18Jan1887 at Kensington Town, UK; Enl.17Dec1912 as (7395) Ldg Sto at London Depot with Port Division of Sydney; to Sto PO 16Nov1913; to submarines 28Feb1914; Died when a Sto PO on Australia's first submarine, AE1, that disappeared off the coast of Duke of York Islands in New Guinea without a trace on 14Sep1914 with the loss of all 35 officers and crew on board; AE1 was not found until 2017; Commemorated at the Plymouth Naval Memorial and the Batahaka War Cemetery.
