Description
Palestine, Judaea, Agrippa II, (A.D. 48 - 95), AE 27, (18.3 grams), issued year 30 = A.D. 90-1, struck at Paneas mint, obv. laureate head of Domitian to right, around ..KAICAP CEB.., rev. Tyche standing to left, holding cornucopiae and ears of corn, in field across ETOY **L* BA/ **[A]GRIPP[A]*, (cf.S.5578 (date not noted), AJC 49, H.628 [-]). Weak in places, otherwise fine/good fine, very rare.
Ex. Hendin and Meshorer describe the bust and legend as Titus, (who at this time had been dead for ten years and if year 30 or Agrippa's reign would place it in his era (A.D.78-9), but it appears as more likely and attributed by other authors as an issue with Domitian's head and belonging to his era. Not present in all the major sales of recent years, a specimen described by Meshorer in 1967 (No.144) is not as fine as this sale specimen.
