Australia, British Pattern 1897 Infantry Officer sword, with decorated steel blade (approx length 82cm), with royal cipher on decorated blade and with fuller on both sides, the ricasso marked by maker, 'Henry/Wilkinson/Pall Mall/London', star with brass centre proof mark and other markings, with upright Defence arrows on back edge of blade, the voided hand guard with royal cipher, 'Crown over GVR', at the base is stamped, '3 M D/ 343/ 10/13', and with wrapped wire bound fish skin grip with steel pommel and steel back of handle, with timber scabbard with steel fitting at top and leather tip. The scabbard with a hairline crack in the timber near the tip, some surface oxidation on the hand guard, otherwise very fine.

The 3rd Military District (3 M D) had its headquarters in Melbourne. It covered all of Victoria and that part of New South Wales south of the Murrumbidgee River.
