Pair to POW: War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. NX40709 W.E.Wheeler (sic, should be Wheller)). Both medals impressed. No ribbons, the second medal with some dark toning and an oxidation spot on the obverse and both medals with a few contact marks, otherwise very fine.

Also entitled to 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star and Defence Medal 1939-45.^William Edward Wheller, labourer, age 31, born at Wollomombi, Armidale, NSW; Enl.14Jun1940 at Tamworth, NSW, with previous service NX1824 with 2/2 Bn; TOS 2/18Bn 29Jul1940; to Singapore 02Feb1941; MIA 16Feb1942 at Malaya and then reported as POW; recovered from Japanese at Changi POW Camp 05Sep1945; RTA 15Sep1945; Disch.19Feb1946 at own request on compassionate grounds; commemorated at Ballarat Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial.
