Victory Medal 1914-19 to KIA at Gallipoli. 99 L-Cpl. J.C.Clark 16 Bn. A.I.F. Impressed. No ribbon, toned good very fine.
Also entitled to 1914-15 Star and British War Medal 1914-18.^John Carlton Clark, sleeper hewer (maker of railway sleepers from logs), age 25, born at Avenel, Vic; Enl.11Sep1914 at Helena Vale, WA in 16Bn, with previous service in Light Horse; Emb.22Dec1914; to Gallipoli 12Apr1915; to L/Cpl (date unknown); MIA 03May1915 and then after a Court of Enquiry KIA 03May1915 at Gallipoli Peninsula; allotted burial site at Quinn's Post Cemetery, Anzac Cove, Gallipoli.^A witness stated that a man named Clark in B Coy 16 Battalion went out with several others to charge a position at Dead Man's Ridge on 2 May 1915. They took the position but casualties were very heavy. As far as the witness knows Clark's body has not been found and he has not been seen since.
