Description

Syria, Kingdom of, Antiochos III, (219-217 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.06 g), Series II, Group B, 'Rose mint', Edessa mint (perhaps), (a mint in Northern Mesopotamian area), issued c.213 B.C., obv. diademed head of Antiochus III to right in high relief, with dotted border, rev. Apollo Delphinios seated left on omphalos, holding arrow and bow, on right, **BASILEWS and to left **ANTIOXOU, rose to left, AT monogram to right, (cf.S.6936, Newell ESM 396, SNG Israel I [Spaer] 726-7 [Pl.46]). Minor roughness far right on reverse, but with attractive bright silver colour in high relief, otherwise extremely fine and rare.
