Thrace, Kingdom of, Lysimachos, (323-281 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.81 g), Magnesia Mint, issued 297/6-282/1 B.C., obv. head of Alexander to right, (eye looking forwards) with diadem and horn of Ammon, within dotted circle, rev. Athena enthroned to left, supporting Nike, shield at side with lion's head, **PUOR* monogram in inner left field, race torch with fillets in outer left field, to right **BASILEWS*, to left **LUSIMAXOU*, (cf.S.6814, Thompson 115 [Pl.19], Armenak 853-862, SNG Cop. 1111). Light grey tone with strong highlights, a nearly full flan, good very fine/very fine and a rare variety.
Ex Bunker Hunt Collection, Sotheby's June 19, 1991 (lot 539 part), with collector's 2x2 holder.^This issue is close in style to the beautiful issues from the Pergamon mint, struck by the artist who simply signed his coinage with K.
