Thrace, Maroneia, (c.386-347 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (10.89 g), obv. horse rearing to left, trailing bridle, MAP**W*, below horse, rev. **EPI-IKE-SIO* kerykeion around a linear square, within a vine leaf around and a grape arbor of four bunches, all within a shallow incuse square, (cf.S.1631, Schonert-Geiss 425, SNG Cop.-, West ANSNNM $0, 92, SNG Lockett 1200). Struck in high relief with traces of mint bloom, minor weakness on reverse, otherwise extremely fine/good very fine, published for same die combination, very rare.
Ex Spink & Son, London, Auction Sale 162 (lot 6) March 27, 2003. A CNG example in similar condition realised a hammer of $2500 US in Triton XI, (lot 92), another in Nomos Auction 15 (lot 44) realised hammer of 3,800 SFr.
