Italy, Bruttium, Locroi Epizephyrioi, (332-300 B.C.), silver stater, attrributed to Period II Calciati 317-310 B.C., (8.4 grams), obv. Pegasos with pointed wing flying to left, caduceus below, rev. Athena to left wearing over leather cap a Corinthian helmet, with legend before **LOKRWN*, (cf.S.483, Calciati 12 [12/1 same dies], BMC -, SNG Cop. 1868 [same dies]). Surface porosity, otherwise very fine.

These Corinthian-type staters etc. were used by the Locroians for foreign commerce, the example in this had been set by Syracuse, their close ally.
