Italy, Venice, Lorenzo Celsi, (1361-1365), gold ducat or zecchino, (3.56 g), obv. LAVR CELSI - S M VENETI, Doge kneeling before standing figure of St. Mark, DUX between, rev. SIT . T . XPE . DATQ . TV . REGIS . ISTE . DVCAT, Christ standing, nine stars around, (cf.Papadopoli 1; Paolucci 1; Scarfea 108). Good very fine - nearly extremely fine and scarce.

Ex Dr L.J.Sherwin Collection, with tickets. Previously CNG Auction 100, lot 209.^The zecchino was first minted in Venice in 1284 and derived its name from the Venetian mint which was known as the 'Zecca' beside St Mark's Square.
