Diocletian, (A.D. 284-305), gold aureus, Cyzicus mint, issued late A.D. 294 early 295, (5.2 grams), obv. laureate head of Diocletian to right, around DIOCLETI ANVS AVG, rev. around VIRTV S AVGG NN, emperor seated right on throne, holding sceptre, crowned by Victory standing behind, to right captive seated to left, (S.-, RIC 2 (Vol VI), [R3]). Attractive rich golden tone, extremely fine and extremely rare.
