Rock(Hampton) Annual Regatta, 1887, prize medal handcrafted in gold (tested as 15ct; 8.36g; 39x25mm), pin-back but pin missing, obverse inscribed, 'A.Bartlem/Stroke', reverse inscribed, 'ROCk. Annual Regatta/1887/Jnr Fours'. Very fine.
The Rockhampton Regatta was held on 23rd September, 1887. The weather was beautiful, and there was not an incident to mar the full success of the gathering. The management was a credit to the joint committee of the two rowing clubs who supervised the affair, the Rockhampton Rowing Club and the Central Queensland Rowing Club. S.W. Hartley and F. Linthwaite acted as judges; W. R. Holt was starter; W. M. Purcell, timekeeper; and G. Shaw, hon. secretary. The first event took place about 10 a.m., and the regatta lasted till about 6 p.m. A. Bartlem's crew from Central Queensland Rowing Club won the Junior Fours by 6 lengths. They also won the Maiden Fours.
