Macedon, kingdom of Philip II, (359-336 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (14.52 g), Pella IIa mint, issued c. 342/1-337/6 B.C., obv. head of Zeus laureate to right, dotted border, rev. naked youth or small man (Philip II), on horseback to right, holding long palm branch, thunderbolt below, N in exergue, above **FILIP POU*. (S.6680, Le Rider 252, Pl.11, [p.35], obv. die D138, rev. die R201, SNG ANS 385-395, SNG Greece II (Alpha Bank) 272 (PL.XI), high relief, minor flan flaw on reverse, and slightly double struck, otherwise round with attractive pale grey patination tone, extremely fine and very rare.

Ex Dix Noonan Webb, Auction sale October 7, 2003 (lot 1486). An original contemporary issue in the middle of reign of Philip II.
