Group of Four: Military Cross (GRI); 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. J.H.Cartwright 2/F.C.Eng.A.I.F on second medal, Capt J.H.Cartwright A.I.F. on third and fourth medals. First medal unnamed, second impressed, third and fourth engraved, re-named. Good very fine.

James Hattie Cartwright, born in Gibraltar, Architect Surveyor, age 32yrs. Enl 01Mar1915.
Recommendation 03 Sep1916 and again 02Mar1917.
MC LG 04Jun1917 pg 5485, C G 04Oct1917 pg 2626 - 'Lieutenant Cartwright has done excellent work with his Company, evincing much keenness and capability and displaying great personal gallantry. The determination and courage shown by him has proved a splendid example to all the ranks, and he has consistently maintained this high standard'.

Enl. 01Mar1915, Melbourne to 2nd Australian Division Engineers; Emb 28Jun1915 Melbourne for Gallipoli, Served later at the western front, commissioned to 2nd Lieut with 7th Field Engineers 23Jun1916, WIA 29Jul1916 GSW to back and left ankle, Pozieres but stayed on duty; WIA 05Aug1916 at Capture of 'Pozieres Windmill' and Old German lines 1 & 2. Appointed Capt 08Jul1918; DOW 02Sep1918, buried Daours Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
