Victoria Volunteer Long and Efficient Service Medal, (type 1). T.H.Tyler. 1880. Engraved. Ribbon age toned, hairlines, otherwise extremely fine.
VVLESM: Awarded to Trumpeter T.H. Tyler, Emerald Hill Artillery as authorised by General Order 139.
Thomas Harold Tyler, painter, born Oct1844 at Bosking, Essex, UK; arrived at Melbourne, Vic 20Feb1863; Enl.c1864 in Victorian Volunteer Corps and then to Emerald Hill Artillery as Trumpeter; noted as a witness to the assault of a unit officer in May1870; mentioned favourably in Jul1870 during an inquiry into the poor state of discipline at his unit; noted as a Corporal in 1878 competing in a Rifle Shooting Competition; presented with Victorian Volunteer Long and Efficient Service Medal by Colonel Anderson at Melbourne Town Hall on 26Jan1881; Died 09Oct1914 and buried at Footscray Cemetery, Vic.
