II; Australian Defence Medal; United Nations Mission in East Timor (UNAMET) Medal; Timor Leste Solidarity Medal. 1808416J.A.Staal on first two and fourth medals, 8246240 J A Staal on third medal, last two medals unnamed as issued. Named medals pantographed. The first five medals swing mounted, the last medal loose. Nearly uncirculated.

Together with a matching set of miniature medals; 2Bn RAR colour patch; certificate presented to Pte J A Staal - in appreciation of your service with the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, Operation Helpem Fren Solomon Islands 2003, issued by LtCol J.J.Frewen, Commander CTF635; colour photo of Pte Staal on operations in Timor.

Also included is a letter from Major J.J.Hedges, Officer Commanding Engineer Group to Private J.A.Staal, Assault Pioneer Section, Engineer Group, Tonobibi, East Timor dated 7 April 2002 thanking Private Staal for his individual efforts as part of the Engineer Group whilst on Operation Tanager in East Timor. After another ten lines of praise and congratulations to Private Staal and the Engineer Group, the letter finishes, 'Please find enclosed a copy of the commendation awarded by Brigadier Wilson to the Engineer Group for exceptional performance of duty. Once again, thank you for your efforts.' At the bottom of the letter is mentioned as an enclosure, 'Commander Sector West Commendation to the Engineer Group.' (There is no enclosure with the lot).

Appreciation of Service advice - Private John Anthony Staal enlisted into the Australian Regular Army on 5 August 1997. At the completion of Initial Employment Training, Private Staal was allocated to the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment. During eight years of service, Private Staal has performed a wide range of roles including overseas service on Operations Warden and Tanager in East Timor and on Operation Anode to the Solomon Islands. On behalf of the Chief of Army and all ranks I congratulate you on eight years service with the Australian Army. Private Staal discharged on 17 July 2005. (Dated 17 July 2005 and signed by Lt-Colonel M.Mahy, Commanding Officer).
