James Ellis Petree, photographer, died from consumption in late January 1913 at Apsley, a small town in Victoria near to the South Australian border. After returning from South Africa where he served with the first South Australian Contingent he used his observations of that country to travel to his local regional towns and using a lantern screened pictures and delivered lectures.
