Macedon, Kingdom of, Perseus, (179-168 B.C.), reduced Attic standard, silver tetradrachm, (14.47 g), Amphipolis Mint, issued 178-168 B.C., obv. laureate bearded head of Perseus to right, rev. eagle, wings open standing on thunderbolt, **BASI LEWS* above, **PER SEWS* below, monograms **QE* above, AY monogram to right of eagle, AN monogram below eagle legs, all within a oak-wreath beneath which is a plow, (S.6804, SNG Cop. -, Ash-, Fitz.-, Weber -, McLean -, Hunterian -, A.Mamroth 25 [ZfN. 1928], HG 3, 1094). Lightly toned, obverse nearly extremely fine with an attractive portrait, reverse good very fine with surface corrosion, a rare group of monograms.
