China, Empire, Kwangtung Province, silver fifty cents (1889) by the Heaton Mint, Birmingham, denomination in English 3 Mace 6 1/2 Candareens (KM.Y197; Kunn 17, L & M 197). An unmarked mint state example with delicate light golden toning, fully sealed original mint bloom, choice uncirculated and one of the finest known.

This first series for Kwangtung were heavier than the foreign coins they were meant to replace. The issue of five silver coins, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents and dollar were soon withdrawn and melted.
