John, (1199-1216), silver penny, short cross type, Class Vc, London Mint, moneyer Ilger, issued 1207-1210, (1.17 g), obv. crowned facing bust, two curls each side, beard of small strokes, five large pearls in band of crown, sceptre to left, +HENRICVS R/EX around begins at 10 o'clock, X in form of St Andrew's cross, rev. short cross voided with quatrefoil in each angle, within inner beaded circle, +ILGER ON LVNDE around begins at 12 o'clock, with cross patt?e, (S.1352, N.971). Toned, reverse struck slightly off centre, very fine.
