Trio: Imperial Service Medal (GVIR Fid:Def); British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. George Robert Harland on first medal, 5610 Pte. G.R.Harland. 8-Lond. R. on last two medals. All medals impressed. Some contact marks on last two medals, otherwise fine - very fine.

Together with swing mounting bar for three medals; original ribbons for last two medals; newspaper article regarding award of the Imperial Service Medal.

The newspaper article states that George Robert Harland started as a boy messenger at Scarborough Post Office in 1904. Within two years he had become an auxiliary postman and transferred to Cudworth and then Sheffield. By 1914 he was back at Scarborough and after serving in the Great War he returned to his old job even though he was disabled. By 1939 he was the head postman at Scarborough. He was recommended for the award of the Imperial Service Medal by Scarborough's head postmaster. Mr Harland, who retired from the post office at the age of 60 was to be officially presented with his award by the head postmaster, Mr. H. Whitehead.
