Royal Naval Volunteers, long service medal, handcrafted in silver with suspender bar and a pin-back ribbon suspender inscribed 'Long Service/1840-1855', obverse, inscribed 'John Birt' in an inscribed scroll, reverse, inscribed crown and anchor at the top with 'R.N.V.' above, below is inscribed, Served on Board/H.M.S. Victory./H.M.S. Rodney./H.M.S.Cyclops./1840-1855.', the ribbon very poor. Very fine.

Together with a hardcover book (approx 37.5x27cm; 96pp), with b&w and printed coloured paintings of British naval ships together with some activities of the ships, printed on the flyleaf in pencil, 'Charles N. Robinson 3751-0/published 1901/Personalised Copy/for John Birt R.N.V.' and gold blocked on the front cover is, 'JOHN BIRT/R.N.V./ENGLAND', inside is a painting of the Victory and below is signed in ink, 'John Birt/on the Victory 1845'; ribands for Turkish Crimea Medal 1855-56 and Naval Engineers Good Conduct Medal (instituted 1842).
