British War Medal 1914-18. 737 Pte O.G.brown. A N & M.E.F. Impressed. With incorrect red, white and blue patriotic ribbon, otherwise toned good very fine.
With unofficial case.
The British War Medal 1914-18 is sole entitlement. He was not entitled to the Victory Medal 1914-19 that was only awarded to those who served in a unit in a theatre of war. New Britain was proclaimed a theatre of war from 10-22Nov1914 (12 days) and Brown did not arrive until 06Jan1916.
Octavius Gilbert Brown, labourer, age 45, born at Edinburgh, Scotland; Enl.21Aug1915 at Holdsworthy, NSW, in tropical Force; arrived at Rabaul and TOS AN&MEF 06Jan1916; RTA 15Mar1917 and struck off Garrison strength at Rabaul; Disch.28Apr1917 Medically Unfit; Died at St Anne's Rest Home, Lismore and buried at Lismore Church of England Cemetery on 30Sep1949.
