Description
Ionia, Ephesos, (350-340 B.C. Kinns chronology), silver tetradrachm, (14.70 g), obv. bee with straight wings dividing E - **F*, rev. forepart of kneeling stag to right, looking back, palm tree behind, to right magistrate's name **OESS[ALOS]* (Thessalos), (cf.S.4371, Ashton "The Pixodoros Hoard" Class G, 117, SNG Munich 28). Well centred with corosion flaking and green oxidation of the reverse, removing most of the magistrates name, obverse lightly toned, otherwise very fine and a very scarce Magistrate.
Ex Kunker Auction Sale 270, 2 October 2015, (lot 8313, realised 950 Euros).
The damage to the reverse comes after that sale as sale photo shows a clear reading of the magistrate's name.
