Sicily, Syracuse, Time of Agathokles to Hiketas, (c.317-278 B.C.), AE 24 (9.75 g), obv. wreathed head of Persephone to right, traces of ethnic around, rev. charioteer in biga galloping right, star above, **PC* below, (S.1210, HGC 2, 1447 (dated 287-278 B.C.). SNG ANS 773 var. (A in exergue). Extremely fine with a delightful olive green patina.

It appears from the references that there are differing opinions concerning the exact placement of this issue. Some scholars place it during the reign of Agathokles, others during the Republican period that followed, and still others during the reign of Hiketas. Here we have chosen not to take issue and simply reference it to the general period.
