Stephen I, (1135-1154), silver cut half penny, voided cross and stars type, probably Castle Rising or Thetford but may be London, Canterbury or Hastings Mint, moneyer Rodbert, (0.68 g), obv. bust three quarters left, crowned and holding sceptre in right hand, [+STIFEFN]E around, rev. plain cross voided with a star (mullet?) in each angle within inner circle, +RODBER[T ON] around, (S.1280, N.878, BMC ii). Toned, slightly wavy flan, nearly very fine and scarce.
Ex S.J.Green Collection. Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 116, lot 1533. With tickets. Previously the William J Conte Collection. From the Wicklewood Hoard (Norfolk), Christie's May 1990 (lot 73 part)- this hoard was found in May 1989 and contained 492 coins (1/3 of them cut halfpennies or farthings) mainly from Castle Rising, Norwich and Thetford mints deposited early in the reign of Henry II.
