Edward the Confessor, (1042-1066), silver penny, trefoil quadrilateral type, London Mint, issued 1046-1048, moneyer Brihtred, (0.84 g), obv. diademed bust left with four horizontal folds and five pellets in drapery, in front a sceptre pommee, dividing legend +EDPERD REX around, rev. over short cross voided, quadrilateral ornament with three pellets at each angle and one in centre within inner circle, legend +BRIHTRED ON LVN around, (S.1174, N.817, BMC iii). Toned, lightweight issue, very fine and scarce.
