Aethelred II, (978-1016), silver penny, small cross type, Thetford Mint, issued 1009-1017, moneyer Aelfwine, (1.22 g), obv. crude and large diademed bust left with four horizontal folds in drapery, ties behind bust, within inner circle, +EDELRAED REX ANGL around, rev. small cross pattee within inner circle, +ELFPINE MON DEOD around, (S.1154, N.777, BMC i). Toned, some peck marks, slight surface crack on reverse, very fine and a rare moneyer.
