Aethelred II, (978-1016), silver penny, small crux type, London Mint, moneyer Leofwine, (1.37 g), obv. draped bust left, large head with swept back hair, pellet before chin rather than behind neck, trefoil-tipped sceptre before cutting into drapery which has three horizontal folds, all within inner circle, +AEDELRAED REX ANGLOX around, rev. voided short cross, C R V X in angles, an extra pellet in C and X quarters, within inner circle, +LEOFWINE M-O LVN around, (S.1149, N.770var, BMC iiia). Toned, nearly very fine and rare.
