Aethelred II, (978-1016), silver penny, first hand type, London Mint, moneyer Aelfstan, (1.38 g), obv. diademed and draped bust right within solid inner circle), +AEDELRAED REX ANGLORX (ORX ligated) around, rev. hand of Providence (manus Dei) issuing from clouds with double crescent sleeve and inner pellet, at either side A (Alpha) and W (Omega) with contraction bar above each, within solid inner circle, (S.1144, N.766, BMC iia). Toned, good fine and rare.
