Anglo-Saxon, Transitional/Pre-Primary Phase, (c.665/70-670/5), base gold thrymsa (shilling), "Pada" type III (1) type 97, transitional to silver sceats, mint in Kent, (1.07 g), obv. Romanised bust to right, draped and double diademed, hair rendered by stiff parallel lines with fringe over forehead, wreath ties behind, VNC before, rev. plain cross in inner beaded circle, annulets in each angle, legend around with Runic PADA (moneyer), OANVSPANVM, (s.770, North 154, M82). Lightly toned, slight edge loss, otherwise nearly very fine and very rare.
