Australia, WWI, handcrafted tribute fob in gold (15ct; 4.81g; 28x31mm), ring top suspension, obverse inscribed, 'Tasmania', reverse inscribed, 'J. Hern/from/Residents/of Lefroy/a soldier of the/Great War/1914 - 18'. Nearly uncirculated.
John Hern, labourer, age 32, born at Lefroy, Tas; Enl.02Mar1916 at Claremont, Tas, in 40Bn; Emb.01Jul1916; to France 23Nov1916; various hospitalisations some for trench fever; RTA 09Feb1919; Disch.09May1919 Medically Unfit; post war he was a member of the Launceston Tramways for over 20 years; Died in Oct1945 and was buried at Carr Villa Memorial Park, Kings Meadows, Launceston with a returned soldiers' service included.
